1. What to See and Do on Koh Phangan - Attractions.

As I mentioned in the title, there are many different ways to spend your free time on Koh Phangan. Everyone, without exception, can find attractions here that suit them best.

For those seeking relaxation, there are numerous beautiful sandy beaches with snorkeling options. Across the island, there are numerous viewpoints, often accompanied by restaurants and cafes, which can be reached by trekking or directly by scooter. There are numerous waterfalls here, accompanied by unique wild nature. In terms of partying, there are many options, both during the day and at night.

There are many possibilities, so for better navigation, I have divided the above table of contents into categories.

Is it worth visiting Koh Phangan?

Koh Phangan is definitely worth a visit. I have spent a total of 11 months here on and off, and I honestly think it’s a unique place that I recommend everyone visit at least once in their lifetime. Why? Because the island offers harmony where we can feel safe and comfortable, all surrounded by beautiful weather, nature and picturesque views.

Koh Phangan is known as a
hippie island, attracting people from various cultures and backgrounds who value freedom, acceptance, and peace. The unique atmosphere of the island allows one to feel truly comfortable being oneself here.

Freedom, respect, acceptance, empathy.

To illustrate the level of safety, it’s worth mentioning that people here often leave keys in scooter ignitions and frequently do not lock their homes. I have never encountered any cases of aggression or intolerance.

Before your visit, I must ask you to say the following words aloud:

I solemnly swear that if I decide to come,
I promise to conform to the harmony that prevails here.

2.1. Viewpoints on Koh Phangan

Let’s start with the basics to calmly and leisurely introduce you to the island of Koh Phangan and its beautiful views. If you’re looking for Koh Phangan viewpoints, there are options for trekking, morning coffee, or a romantic dinner at sunset.

Apichada Viewpoint

Opening Hours: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Rating: 9/10
Location: here
Type: restaurant

Apichada is the highest point in this area, offering an unobstructed, expansive view of the surrounding landscape. As one of the best Koh Phangan viewpoints, the restaurant offers a spacious, covered area, perfect for relaxing with a book or remote work. Prices are reasonable, and the place provides internet access (though the speed is rather slow).

420 Club Phangan / Ko Ma Viewpoint

Opening Hours: 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Rating: 8/10
Location: here
Type: restaurant

420 Club Phangan is a popular sunset spot with a view of Koh Ma island. The venue is in an open space, spread over two floors. In the evening, finding a table can be challenging, so I recommend arriving at least an hour before sunset.

Bottle Beach Viewpoint

Rating: 7/10
Location: here
Type: trekking

This place is known for its picturesque photos taken on the rocks with a view of the surrounding landscape. It takes about 45 minutes of climbing to get there. Is it worth it? In my opinion, yes, although there are more interesting places on the island. However, the extra physical activity and the reward of a beautiful photo are always a plus.

Hide on High

Opening Hours: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Rating
: 9/10
Location: here
Type: restaurant, entry 100 THB

This is a place with a beautiful view, located in a secluded part of the island. Upon entry, guests are asked to pay a fee of 100 THB, which can later be used at the bar. Although the owner’s communication style may seem a bit cold, it’s worth visiting because the place is truly beautiful!

2.2. Waterfalls on Koh Phangan

To begin with, it’s worth noting that most Koh Phangan waterfalls are not active during the dry season, so I recommend checking detailed information about each location depending on the season.

Namtok Than Waterfall

Rating: 8/10
Location: here

Namtok Than is the largest and most popular waterfall on Koh Phangan, mainly because it doesn’t dry up even in the dry season. The walk to the waterfall from the main road takes only 5 minutes. It’s also worth noting the vegetation along the path, where you can see the Sensitive Plant — a plant that folds its leaves upon touch.

Wang Sai Waterfall

Rating: 7/10
Location: here

Wang Sai Waterfall is a less popular waterfall, surrounded by a beautiful landscape. Although it may be dry during the dry season, it’s worth visiting to enjoy the picturesque view and a moment of peace. To reach the waterfall, head towards the Dome sauna. After passing the sauna, keep to the left. The safest option is to park just past the sauna, on the other side of the path, then walk a bit along the left side and carefully descend the stone path.

2.3. The best beaches on Koh Phangan

The Koh Phangan beaches are numerous and sandy, scattered across almost every part of the island. If you’re wondering what to do on Koh Phangan, visiting its beautiful beaches is a must. Below, I present a few suggestions, both popular and less known… 🙂

Zen Beach

Rating: 8/10
Location: here

Zen Beach is the heart of Koh Phangan and one of the most popular places to watch the sunset, although life here goes on all day. This beach is known for its numerous events, including Koh Phangan live music, and dynamic atmosphere that changes literally every few meters.

Right at the entrance, you can notice a diversity of people and lifestyles. You’ll meet a circle of hippies in old-school outfits, with long hair and scanty clothes, surrounded by a cloud of smoked marijuana. A few steps further, there is a group of nudists enjoying the sun without restraint. Moving on, you might come across acrobats standing on their hands or heads, or even people juggling other people.

Every Friday, a drum circle is held at Zen Beach, where participants release their energy by playing drums to the rhythm of the music. On another day, you can participate in a relaxing sound healing session or watch fire shows.

Mae Haad Beach

Rating: 8/10
Location: here

In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful beaches on Koh Phangan. Connected to a smaller island by a natural “land pier,” it offers a vast space and is less crowded than other beaches, while also having many restaurants.

I recommend getting an outdoor massage here with a view of the sea for 300 THB (about 35 PLN). It is also a popular place for snorkeling (more information in the snorkeling section).

Secret Beach

Rating: 7/10
Location: here

This is my favorite beach. Although, contrary to its name, it’s no longer very “secret,” still not many people know about it. The place is well-maintained and offers the possibility to rent kayaks and Stand Up Paddle.

The beach also has restaurants, cafes, and bars, making it an ideal place for relaxation and spending time in a beautiful setting.

Pirate Beach - nudist beach

Rating: 8/10
Location: here

This is one of the few nudist beaches on Koh Phangan. To get there, head towards the SeaTara restaurant. Turn after the 7 Eleven store (on the right) and go straight until you reach the restaurant, where you can park. Behind the place, on the left side, there are hidden stairs leading to a secluded part of the beach.

Be careful on your way back, as around 4 PM the water level is high enough that it may be difficult to find the stairs and the way back.

2.4. Infinity pools

Infinity pools One of the popular attractions Thailand has to offer are infinity pools — edge-free pools that create the illusion of water merging with the horizon, creating an amazing visual effect.

Tomorrow X

Opening hours: 08:00 AM – 09:00 PM
Rating
: 7/10
Location: here

Mountain Hut is a less touristy restaurant due to its location. Sunbeds with towels are available by the pool, included in the price of the bar bill. Although the prices are more European, it’s worth spending some time here in peace, away from the hustle and crowds.

Blue Rama - sunset

Opening Hours: 09:00 AM – 11:00 PM
Rating
: 8/10
Location: here

About this place more information in the “events and events” section. It is a restaurant with an infinity pool and a beautiful view of the sunset. On selected days (mainly Fridays), a party with very good house/techno music is organized.

2.5. Snorkeling, spearfishing, Stand Up Paddle

When snorkeling and diving, it’s worth considering a trip to the nearby island of Koh Tao, famous for its beautiful underwater world. Koh Tao can be easily reached by a direct ferry from Koh Phangan. However, Koh Phangan diving spots also offer great experiences. [Więcej o Koh Tao znajdziesz tutaj]

A few tips for snorkeling enthusiasts:

  • Go during high tide when the water level is higher, which usually happens after 3:00 pm.
  • Wear swimming shoes to avoid cuts from sharp corals or stings from sea urchins.
  • Use waterproof sunscreen or wear a short or long-sleeve shirt to protect yourself from the sun and avoid sunburns.
  • Avoid standing on corals, which are very delicate and can easily be damaged.
  • Watch out for jellyfish — they can be dangerous, but with caution, you can safely enjoy Thailand’s underwater world.

Secret Beach

Rating: 7/10
Location: here
Features: snorkeling, kayaks, Stand Up Paddle

Haad Gruad

Rating: 7/10
Location: here
Features: less popular place, snorkelingmany species of fish, free kayak for restaurant guests, spearfishing

Don’t be discouraged by the beach, which isn’t very pretty, because in this place we find an interesting underwater world. The beach is not popular, which positively affects the number of various fish species. For fans of underwater fishing – you can practice spearfishing here (if you find an equipment rental on the island).

Mae Haad Beach

Rating: 8/10
Location: here
Features: snorkeling, less crowded, natural pier to a smaller island

The best place for snorkeling in this area is the space along the natural sandy pier, right next to the smaller island.

Be sure to go there after 2:00 pm, as at low tide, it’s not possible to safely dive without the risk of scraping against the corals.

3. Entertainment, Culture, and Events on Koh Phangan

The island hosts a variety of events—from quieter evenings with open mic, live music, fire shows, or outdoor cinema, to more entertaining ones like drum circles, ecstatic dance, or all-day Koh Phangan parties on beaches, hills, and near waterfalls.

Something for everyone!

3.1. Where to Party on Koh Phangan - nightlife

Let’s move on to the strictly entertainment part, the Koh Phangan nightlife, where there are noteworthy clubs and parties worth attending. If you’re wondering where to party on Koh Phangan, below is a list of clubs with options: by the beach, with a pool, by the waterfall, in the jungle, on rocks, and at viewpoints.

Why Nam - Tuesday - beach club

Rating: 9/10
Location: here
When:
Tuesdays 12:00 PM – 02:00 AM
Cost: free
Highlights: hidden beach, neighbor of Eden and Bambu, houses for rent
Music: House / techno

It’s my favorite party destination, located on a secluded beach on the south of the island, inaccessible to vehicles. You can get there in two ways: a) by boat from Haad Rin (300 THB) or b) by a special path, which takes about 2 hours of climbing. Why Nam is one of the three clubs in this area; it neighbors Bambu and Eden. If you’re seeking an alternative to the famous Koh Phangan Full Moon Party, Why Nam offers an unforgettable experience.

When are parties held at Why Nam? Every Tuesday from 11:00 am and until about 2:00 am. There’s a very positive vibe here and plenty of space, so besides partying, you can relax on the beach and try snorkeling. The restaurant offers affordable prices, making it easy to spend the whole day at the place. Return boats to Haad Rin run until the last guest, but it’s worth keeping an eye on the situation on-site.

Eden - Saturday - cliff club

Rating: 9/10
Location: here
When:
Saturdays 06:00 PM – 08:00 AM
Cost: free
Highlights: cliff club, neighbor of Why Nam and Bambu, houses for rent
Music: Techno / deep techno

Another place on the party list is Eden, located in the south of the island near Why Nam. You can get there in two ways: a) by boat from Haad Rin (300 THB) or b) by climbing a special path for about 2 hours.

Eden is built on cliffs, allowing you to dance with a beautiful view of the sea and surroundings, as if no one is watching. This is my third favorite in the island’s party calendar.

When do parties take place at Eden on Koh Phangan? Parties at Eden usually take place on Saturdays and sometimes on Sundays. It’s best to always check the current event schedule on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/edengarden_kohphangan/

Eden is one of the three clubs in this area, neighboring Bambu and Why Nam, more information about which can be found below.

Bambu - Sunday - cliff club

Rating: 8/10
Location: here
When:
Sundays 08:00 AM – 02:00 AM
Cost: free
Highlights: cliff club, neighbor of Why Nam and Eden, houses for rent
Music: House / melodic techno

Where is Bambu club located? It is a direct neighbor of Eden, which makes most guests of the Saturday night party at Eden continue it at Bambu during the Sunday daytime party. The place is located in the south of the island, near Why Nam, and you can get there in two ways: a) by boat from Haad Rin (300 THB) or b) by climbing a special path, which takes about 2 hours.

When are parties held at Eden on Koh Phangan? Every Sunday from 08:00 am to 02:00 am.

Blue Rama - Saturday - hilltop pool club

Rating: 9/10
Location: here
When:
Saturdays 4:00 PM – 10:00 AM
Cost: 200 THB
Highlights: hilltop club, infinity pool
Music: House / melodic techno

Blue Rama is my number two on the list of clubs and parties on the island. The venue is located in the Sritanu area, on a hill, providing a wonderful view of the sea and surroundings. The only downside of this place is the limited space for relaxing, especially with greater interest.

The only downside of this place is the very high bar prices, but I still recommend it :).

Seaboard - Wednesday - beach club

Rating: 5/10
Location: here
When:
Wednesdays 5:00 PM – 02:00 AM
Cost: free
Highlights: art market next door
Music: House / techno

A weekly party on Haad Yao beach. Personally, I do not recommend it, as the musical vibe can be very varied. However, the convenient location and the art market organized with the party may encourage you to visit this place and decide for yourself if it’s worth staying longer.

Since we celebrate the Full Moon, why not also celebrate its half? Compared to the Full Moon Party, the Half Moon Party is a smaller event, but organized on a smaller scale. If I decide to go – I will report back.

Full Moon Party - night

Rating: 5/10
Location: here
When:
table below
Cost: 200 THB
Highlights: during the full moon
Music: all kinds

A few words about the Full Moon Party, but I want to emphasize at the outset that this is solely my personal opinion — tastes vary.

The Full Moon Party attracts huge crowds of people, which means you have to constantly push through the throngs. The concept of the party is that along the entire Haad Rin beach, there are about 20 clubs, each playing its own music and having its unique vibe. As a result, there is chaos, and in my opinion, there is a lack of minimum comfort. Unlike the parties I described above, here the whole concept is based on large amounts of alcohol and marijuana. I went once and will never make that mistake again. In my opinion — it’s not worth it.

What is the entrance fee for the Full Moon Party? 200 THB (5 USD)

Where and when does the Full Moon Party take place on Koh Phangan? The party takes place on Haad Rin beach.

3.3. Ecstatic dance - dance of freedom

Ecstatic dance is a form of free dance where we express ourselves through spontaneous movement, without any specific structure or steps. If you’re exploring Koh Phangan activities, this is a unique experience. The goal is to achieve a state of euphoria and deep inner freedom through music that guides the dancers through various rhythms and tempos.

The distinguishing feature of these events is the rules:

  • On the dance floor, “noble silence” is required — no talking.
  • No electronic devices allowed — “no phone policy”.
  • No consumption of substances — “no drinking, no smoking weed”.

Pyramid - Ecstatic dance

Location: here
When: various dates
Cost: 800 THB (22 USD)

Be sure to go to the local Muay Thai fights! The fighters represent various nationalities, and the event attracts both numerous locals and tourists. Since it’s often crowded, it’s worth buying tickets online and arriving at least 30 minutes early to get good seats (tickets do not have assigned seating).

It’s a form of meditation aimed at achieving peace of mind, although everyone experiences it in their own way.

The program begins with a meeting with a monk who introduces participants to the practice, referring to the traditions of Buddhist monks.

Participation in the experience is free, but the center is supported by voluntary donations, so it’s worth supporting if you decide to join.

Night market “Saturday Walking Street Market”

When: Saturday, 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

The most popular and largest Koh Phangan night market, the “Saturday Walking Street Market,” takes place on Saturdays in the Thong Sala area on the southwest of the island. You can try everything here — from classic Thai dishes, seafood, sushi, grilled meats, to various kinds of sweets.

I particularly recommend trying rice ball salad, papaya salad, and dumplings.
